Doping Authority Netherlands was established on 1 January 2019. The Anti-Doping Policy Implementation Act (Wet uitvoering antidopingbeleid; Wuab) came into effect on the same day. Doping Authority Netherlands is an independent administrative body and the National Anti-Doping Organisation of the Netherlands. The Wuab provides Doping Authority Netherlands with the legal basis needed to do its work.
The mission of Doping Authority Netherlands is to create doping-free sports in the Netherlands.

The duties are performed in accordance with the World Anti-Doping Code. To fulfil its duties, the Doping Authority cooperates with many national and international organisations.
The predecessor of Doping Authority Netherlands was the Anti-Doping Authority of the Netherlands, a foundation established on 22 June 2006 by the merger of the Netherlands Centre for Doping Issues (NeCeDo) and Doping Control Netherlands (DoCoNed).
